Kensington Palace

Kensington Palace is a place of secret stories and public lives. Originally built in 1605 as a private country house, it was purchased in 1689 by King William III and Queen Mary II, eager to escape from the damp and smoke of Whitehall.   Kensington Palace has been a stage for the drama of the nation’s history, with private scenes of love, loss, heartbreak and happiness played out within these elegant walls. Today, landscaped gardens reconnect the palace with the park and inside visitors can explore four intriguing routes covering over 300 years of the palace’s history, including the dazzling King’s State Apartments, the more intimate Queen’s State Apartments, the exhibition Victoria Revealed recounting the highlights of Queen Victoria’s life in her own words, and the stunning dresses of HM The Queen, Princess Margaret and Diana, Princess of Wales in Fashion Rules.  Find out more at
